Child-Health Advanced Record Management

CHARM Logo

Child-Health Advanced Record Management (CHARM) is a concerted effort to create a virtual health-care profile for every child and to allow real-time data sharing across health-care programs. In general, CHARM covers both operational and software issues and includes a broad range of projects. However, they all center on a secure distributed middleware solution, called the CHARM Integration Infrastructure (CHARM-II).

The CHARM project is a department-wide effort to provide health care professionals with seamless and secure access to consistent, current, and authoritative information about children in Utah. The requirements for the CHARM-II are motivated by dozens of goals, which we have organized into five main areas: data access; integration with existing information systems; data ownership and control; privacy, confidentiality and security; and flexibility and extensibility.
